The Red River Discovery Zone participated in the Powell County Extension office Safety Day
on Thursday, April 30th. This year’s event was held at the Powell County Lion’s Club Park and
was attended by approximately 120 third grade students from all three of the district’s
elementary schools. Students learned about many safety topics including food safety, fire
safety and stranger safety.
The all volunteer Red River Gorge Discovery Zone (RRGDZ) is a traveling pop-up learning
experience focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). The group
led activities designed to teach students about internet and digital safety with engaging age
appropriate activities. Volunteers assisting with this event were Suzy Brown, Teresa Kinser,
Deana Brooks and Troy Brooks.
