Recently a friend of mine was trying to obtain a new S.S. card and was finding out it was not a walk in the park doing so. Of course, some of his friends were riding him pretty hard about I.C.E. coming for him. and that it had been nice knowing him, etc. Immigration is talked about a lot in today’s society, but the truth of the matter is that America was founded by immigration, ( that should keep my friend safe). Going back to the Mayflower and other ships that came to America for a better life, America has always been considered a promised land, where people from foreign countries have a desire to come to America, but they must obtain a passport. If we desire to visit a foreign land, we must have a passport admitting us to visit. We have a problem with people coming to the U.S.A. illegally and we must try to limit that. We read of immigration as far back as when Israel was traveling to Egypt, Deut. 10:18-19.
When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence it stated, ” We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” The only problem was at that time no other color was considered citizens except the white people. It wasn’t until the great civil rights movement of the 60’s that black people were accepted as equal citizens.
True story: A woman needed to obtain a new passport and when she turned in her current picture, she remarked, “I liked the old one better.” The clerk said, ” Trust me, ten years from now you will like this one.”
Point: 1Peter describes what we should look like: we need to look like our passport. 1Peter 2:11 calls us strangers and pilgrims. After we accept Christ: “Eph.2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.” As we travel through this life we as Christians, (red & yellow, black & white, I suppose you sang this like you did in S.S.) are all traveling towards a new land where we long to be. A place where there will be no sorrow or pain, sickness nor strife and best of all, Jesus will be there!
People know what a Christian is supposed to look like, how you act—–if you don’t they call you a hypocrite. A hypocrite is somebody that tries to look or act like something they are not. We must live our life in accordance with Gods word to protect our passport to heaven. In other words, we cannot say one thing and live another. Jesus paid for our passport when he hung on the cross and arose three days later from the tomb. Now the big question, “Have you claimed your passport?”
A long, long time ago doctors did not fill out birth certificates and that is the problem our friend has, he is too old ! I’d say about 20 years more than he claims! Until next week ,may God bless. If you would like to get in touch with me, text 606-481-0444.
