Explorers of all ages can now enjoy viewing local birds thanks to a smart bird feeder camera at the Powell County Library. Jason Vaughn, Powell County Extension, evaluated many smart bird feeder cameras and made the recommendation of this model to the library. The camera was purchased with grant money by the Red River Gorge Discovery Zone (RRGDZ) and is located on the back of the library property in a sheltered area. The camera, manufactured by Birdfy, is eco-friendly with a solar panel for charging. The camera also provides artificial intelligence recognition of over 6,000 species of birds.
Red River Gorge Discovery Zone (RRGDZ) is an all-volunteer pop-up discovery zone emphasizing Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), with free activities for kids (of all ages) focused on the Red River Gorge, conservation, and local history. It is funded by grants from TC Energy, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and Powell County Tourism Commission, and supported by fiscal sponsors Community Partners of Powell County and Powell County Tourism.
