State Representative Bill Wesley of Ravenna filed HB 867, legislation aimed at protecting the privacy and safety of women and vulnerable individuals in public government buildings by requiring shared private facilities be designated by biological sex.
“This legislation would reaffirm our commitment to protecting the dignity, privacy, and safety of women and girls in private spaces where they are most vulnerable,” Wesley said. “This bill simply restores clarity, upholds biological reality, and ensures that our public buildings reflect the values of faith, family, and respect that define the Commonwealth.”
The measure defines access based on biological sex at birth while allowing common-sense exceptions for children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, emergencies, and maintenance situations. Under HB 867, clear standards are created to prevent confusion and ensure that women and girls have secure spaces where they can expect privacy. It protects individuals who report violations from retaliation and provides a legal remedy if they face discrimination for doing so.
“Government’s first responsibility is to protect its people, especially the most vulnerable. HB 867 ensures that our daughters, our granddaughters, our mothers, and our grandmothers can enter public facilities with confidence, knowing their privacy will be respected and their wellbeing safeguarded,” Wesley added. “As a man, a father, and a grandfather, I will fight to protect our daughters and granddaughters from predators invading our women’s private spaces. We will fight against this dangerous and radical agenda.”
