STANTON, KY — The Powell County Public Library was filled with laughter, learning, and plenty of crunch on Thursday, September 17th, as local youth gathered for a special apple-themed program. Made possible through an exciting partnership between the Powell County Public Library and the Powell County Health Department, the event brought healthy habits to life for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., the young participants dove into the wonderful world of apples. The educational afternoon began with a lesson on the impressive nutritional value of the crisp fruit, teaching kids how apples help keep their bodies strong and energized.
Learning quickly turned into playtime as the children enjoyed a lively round of Apple Bingo. A second apple game kept the energy high, giving each child a chance to win a coveted squishie prize.
The highlight of the afternoon for many was the hands-on kitchen session. Instead of traditional sugary pastries, the kids decorated “healthy apple donuts”-coreless apple slices shaped just like donuts. The creative chefs topped their fruit rings with vanilla yogurt, strawberries, and an assortment of other nutritious toppings, proving that eating well can be both artistic and delicious.
No one left empty-handed, as each child took home a bright plastic apple packed with special treats inside.
Don’t Miss the Next Free Adventure: Going on a Skeleton Hunt!
