The Powell County Lions Club Fair rarely disappoints when it comes to bringing fun and family-friendly excitement to the community, hosting a variety of different events, attractions, and activities that have everyone looking forward to an action-packed week, all year long. From dog shows, pageants, and exhibits to the regionally famous Greasy Pig contest and the new RC Car Tournament, the Fair has something for absolutely everybody to come together, take a break from the grind, and have a good time.
Among the most exciting and anticipated events of Fair Week is the Demolition Derby. This showcase of grit, fervor, and twisted metal is an annual occasion that thousands mark on their calendars as a can’t-miss experience. With dozens of participants and old beaters parked as far as the eye can see, this unique exhibition invites competitors from in and around Powell County to bang and bash it out to victory. The Demolition Derby is a tradition that has spanned decades and generations of drivers.
The event would not be possible without its hosts, H&F Motorsports. The crew hopes to breathe life back into the Demolition Derby and restore this special event back to its former glory.
H&S Motorsports: A Family Tradition
H&F Motorsports is not just some random group coming to your county fair. We are people who work in your county, live in your county, and are the faces you pass at your local grocery store. We are your neighbors, friends, and fellow community members.
H&F stands for Hood & Fletcher. Billy Hood and Derrick Fletcher have had a passion for demolition derby since they were old enough to drive. I’m sure many of you have watched them run right here on this very track, as “Hood 69” and “Fletcher 747”. As we all know, the Demolition Derby used to be THE go-to event during fair week—not just for the locals, but for people from surrounding counties, too. We remember hearing those engines roar all night long, and that is exactly what Billy and Derrick hope to bring back.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of their wives every step of the way, a bossy niece, and an incredible crew who work behind the scenes to make it all happen. This isn’t just a sport to them—it’s a passion and a family tradition. Their kids are now following in their footsteps, and that includes their daughters, too. It takes a LOT of time, effort, hard work, and passion to put something like this together. H&F Motorsports, along with the Powell County Lions Club, truly enjoys seeing everyone come out with their families, making memories, supporting our community, and enjoying the Fair. Our hope is to continue this tradition and help bring the Demolition Derby back to what so many of us remember and love.
From all of us at H&F Motorsports, THANK YOU to the Powell County Lions Club and this community for trusting us to take on this challenge with you. We hope to see your smiling faces in the store, down the road, and especially during Fair Week!
