Saturday, August 1st, Stanton City Park
While the dark clouds and threat of rain kept the crowds at bay, the main pavilion at the Stanton Corn Festival buzzed with pure electricity and the elevated stage rocked and rolled as one of this generation’s most insanely talented pickers shredded away and melted the faces of all the folks who hung around for one amazing and unforgettable party. Laid Back Country Picker and his ride-or-die Honey put on a show that will go down as one of the most memorable performances in Corn Festival history.
The Legend of Louisa, Laid Back Country Picker has cooly cruised into the hearts of all who know him and have experienced his fabled stage presence, six-string prowess, and slick, groovy approach to songwriting. Accompanied by his incredibly gifted, infamous, and irreplaceable partner in crime, Honey, the duo has had a tremendous impact on the scene and have cemented themselves as crowd favorites whenever they show up on any bill. Good luck slapping a label on LBCP because this far-out, funky artist curates a fab and fresh blend of Rockabilly, Traditional Country, Rock and Roll with even a dash of Blues, Jazz, Punk, and Metal that can be detected in his one-of-a-kind sound.
Laid Back Country Picker has performed on some of the biggest stages in music, including the Ryman, Red Rocks, and Bonnaroo. With hit songs such as “Magoffin County Cadillac” on his self-titled album, and “They Only Come Around” from the iconic album, “Kingsport”, LBCP has proven time and time again that his trademark and funky blend of vintage and modern is a solid formula to produce timeless and unforgettable music and art.
LBCP’s performance included a slew of beloved original numbers, as well as some notable and fan-favorite covers, hilarious stories and fun anecdotes, and his trademark style of jamming which includes a masterful guitar solo where he leaves the stage and engages the crowd (and even borrowed a golf cart and got a lift back to the stage) while never missing a note or a lick. If you’ve never had the opportunity to experience the duo live, do yourself a favor and catch a show the next time you see them grace a bill.
