
STANTON, KY — The Powell County School District Special Education Department has announced its intent to destroy special education records for individuals whose services ended, or who graduated, in the year 2014 or prior.
In accordance with state and federal library and archives regulations, these records are no longer required for educational purposes. The scheduled date for the permanent destruction of these files is October 1.
Former students, parents, or legal guardians who wish to obtain their original special education records before they are permanently destroyed must contact the district prior to the September 1 deadline. These records may be useful in the future for Social Security benefits, federal programs, or other legal and medical verifications.
