On Wednesday, July 15th the Powell County Animal Shelter found themselves without water once again during a string of outages that began the previous Monday. The outages were due to construction related to the water line replacement occurring for customers of Stanton Water. On Monday, the shelter found themselves without water for a full day and were unable to properly clean or sanitize the dog kennels and even had to provide hydration to their residents with a limited supply of bottled water. When the team arrived on location that Wednesday, they knew that they would not be able to allow their kennels to go another day uncleaned and their animals without this crucially needed resource.
“When the Clay City Fire Department took water to the Powell County Animal Shelter, we were simply helping where help was needed,” said Major Lisa Johnson, who responded and assisted with the operation, “Being a first responder is not only about protecting people – it is also about caring for the animals in our community that depend on all of us. Brandon (PCAS Director) doesn’t ask unless he needs.”
