STANTON — The Powell County Public Library was transformed into a cozy, fleece-filled wonderland on September 2nd, as over 100 local children and their families gathered for a very special, “Llamariffic” story time.
The young attendees arrived dressed in their favorite cozy pajamas, but they weren’t the only ones sporting bedtime attire. The guests of honor—a trio of real, live llamas named Sicily, Phoenix, and Cricket—strolled into the library yard wearing their own custom nightwear inspired by Anna Dewdney’s classic children’s book, Llama Llama Red Pajama. While one stylish llama sported bright red pajama shorts, the other two rocked festive red-and-black buffalo plaid pajamas.
The event kicked off with an animated reading of the famous book, with children giggling as Sicily, Phoenix, and Cricket looked on in their cozy outfits. Following the story, the library turned into a bustling crafting station. The children put their creativity to work, designing colorful, patterned paper quilts to keep their three uniquely dressed friends warm.
No celebration is complete without treats, and the library staff delivered with a perfectly themed snack. Children lined up to enjoy “llama fluff”—spun pink cotton candy that perfectly matched the whimsical energy of the morning.
The highlight of the day was the interactive petting session. Children got up close and personal with the gentle giants, brushing their soft wool, feeding them treats, and snapping memorable photos with Secily, Phoenix, and Cricket in their shorts and plaid.
It was an unforgettable experience that brings stories to life! Seeing all the children in their pajamas interacting so gently with llamas wearing shorts and buffalo plaid was truly magical. It was, without a doubt, a completely Llamariffic day.
