lovingly known to so many as “Ms. Sue,” was born on August 22, 1949, on Wade’s Mill Road in Winchester, Kentucky. She was the only one of her siblings born at home, a distinction she always carried with a smile.
Surrounded by the love of her family, she peacefully passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Stanton, Kentucky. She was the cherished daughter of the late William Woodrow Baber, Sr. and Tilda Mae Goolman Baber. Sue is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband, Harold Wayne Shoemaker. She is also survived by her children, William (Arron) Thomas Tubbs, Jo Ann (Gary) Rice, and Leona Martine Shoemaker(Justin White). She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Rodney Clay Tubbs. She leaves behind a family that was the pride of her life: grandchildren William Thomas Cody Tubbs, William Robert Peyton Tubbs, William David Ely Tubbs, Jacob Rodney Clay Tubbs, Hannah Mae Grace Tubbs, Harold Corban Payne White, Henry Séamus Edison White, Hendrix Atticus Grantham White, Joshua Garett Rice, Emma Garyn Rice, and Carson Grant Rice, along with several treasured great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Sallie Jo Moberly and Billie Gaye Martin, and was preceded in death by her brother, William Woodrow Baber Jr. For many years, Sue was known simply as “Ms. Sue” to generations of students at Clay City Elementary School, where she served as a teacher’s aide. She loved being in the classroom. It was far more than a job. It was her calling. Whether helping a struggling student, assisting a teacher, or volunteering for yet another task that needed doing, she never hesitated to step in. She believed that if something needed to be done, she should be the one to help. Her work ethic, quiet humility, and servant’s heart left an imprint on countless children and educators. After retiring from the school system, Sue began working at Bill’s Carryout, the family business where, decades earlier, she met the man who would become her husband. Together they built a life marked by unwavering devotion, laughter, and faith. Harold was, without question, her favorite person, and the love they shared remained one of life’s greatest blessings. Sue was a faithful member of West Bend Church of God. She found joy in simple things. She loved sewing, making candy for family and friends, and staying busy. She worked hard in every season of life and willingly gave more than was expected, whether at work, at church, or for those she loved. While many knew her as “Ms. Sue,” her greatest calling was being “Mom” and “Mammaw.” Her daughter could always count on her, whether it meant helping at school, offering encouragement, or simply being present. She delighted in her grandchildren, celebrating each of them as unique gifts. Her bond with Emma and Atticus held a particularly special place in her heart, and the love they shared will remain one of her family’s most treasured memories. Her family finds comfort in knowing that the hands that spent a lifetime caring for others are now resting in the hands of her Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends and loved ones to honor Ms. Sue’s memory by donating school supplies to their favorite classroom. As anyone who knew her can attest, Ms. Sue always made sure her kiddos had pencils, paper, and anything else they needed. Helping children was one of her greatest joys. (VETERAN) Roy Haddix,
75, of Stanton, Kentucky, husband of Rebecca Haddix, passed away on May 23, 2026, at Centerpoint Health, 
Winchester surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born on December 13, 1950, in Jackson, Kentucky to the late Chester and Gladys Overbee Haddix. He was a proud Marine veteran and throughout his life worked as a truck driver, police officer, horse trader, and many other occupations. Roy was truly a “jack of all trades” and was known for his hard work, strength, and his favorite title, “Pappy.”
Above all else, Roy loved his family deeply. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Haddix; his brothers, James Haddix and John Haddix; his son, Chester Haddix; his grandson, Zachary Couch; and his sons-in-law, William “Bill” Delacy and James Kirk. Roy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rebecca Haddix; his daughters, Mandy (the late William) Delacy, Brandy (the late James) Kirk, Jessica Haddix, and Magan Pelfrey; grandchildren, Morgan (Ian) Adams, Tristin Delacy, Chloe Pelfrey, Madalyn (Shelby) Barnett, Zoey Pelfrey, Aiden Pelfrey, McKinley Kirk, Marti Kirk, Riley Janel, Gunner Couch, and Bear Faulkner; and great-grandchildren, Levi Adams, Evelynn Poston, Avery Bexley, Carter Norris, Dean Adams, and Clayton Norris. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel (Kevin) Crabtree; his brothers, Bobby (Tina) Haddix and Clarence (Vickie) Haddix; along with many extended family members and friends. Roy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy, and he cherished all the time he spent with each of them. Services Wednesday, May 27, 2:00PM Wells Funeral Home by Bro. Rob Rice. Visitation Wednesday 12-2pm at the funeral home. Bryan Wesley “Homie” Sexton,
70, of Clay City, husband of Sheila Mize Sexton, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026 at University of Kentucky 
Medical Center, Lexington. He was born April 2, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Elmer and Letha Snowden Sexton. Bryan was a master Harley Davidson mechanic, who built top fuel motorcycles. To know him was to love him. Bryan had his own sayings, jokes, and always enjoyed fishing. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather where his favorite title was “Poppy”. Survivors include, wife, Sheila Mize Sexton; son, Bryan Dylan (Natacha Lowry) Sexton; daughter Tisheena Parks; grandchildren, Mason Browning, Caylee Ballard, Bryan Bentley Sexton, Aldon Sexton, Willow Sexton, and Piper Sexton; great-grandson, Beau Hardy Williams; sister, Sheila Brown; and special granddog, Butters Sexton. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Graceleigh Lowry. Services Thursday, May 28, 1:00PM by Bro. Brad Epperson. Visitation Wednesday 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial in Powells Valley Cemetery, Clay City with Bryan Dylan Sexton, Mason Browning, Gage Williams, Jacob Dobson, Corey Charles, Bo Foley, Luke Tipton, and Jessie Tipton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Barrel Ashley, Lee D Freeman, Robbie Keeton, Doug Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Junior Charles, Matthew Charles, Mark Barnett, Morris Barnett and past and current members of the Defiers Motorcycle Club.
Sondra Francine Powell
left this life on May 14, 2026 to be with her Lord. Sondra was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 27, 1949 
to her beloved parents Hazel Boyd Powell and William Odra Powell, who preceded Sondra in death. She was also preceded in death by her dearly loved brother, Daniel (Dan) Rene Powell. Sondra is survived by one aunt, Mildred Robertson, of Peru, IN; one niece, Allison Clayton of Nashville, Tennessee; and numerous cousins. Sondra was blessed to have a circle of very close friends, both in Cincinnati and Nashville, who loved her very much. They devoted limitless love and attention, time and service to rally around Sondra in her last difficult years. Sondra graduated from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1971 and was a secretorial assitant in the presidents office for several years. Later she went on to work for BellSouth/AT&T where retired after 30 years of service.
Sondra returned to Cincinnati to care for her mother and remained there until her own death. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She loved the Lord with all her heart and spent her life in His service. Sondra had many interests and enjoyed many things. She loved her cats, as well as music and needlework, and loved traveling with her friends. She had a great interest in genealogy and ancestry and did extensive research into her family background. Sondra loved her country and counted herself a true patriot. In acknowledgment of that, Sondra will be interred on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Stanton Cemetery, where there will be a graveside service officiated by Daniel Newell from Stanton Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, Sondra would appreciate donations made to any of her favorite causes:
