With over 30 submissions, the City of Stanton awarded Megan Burger top honors in the
Stanton City Flag design. Burger, a resident of Clay City, stated that the design represents the
“natural beauty, heritage, and spirit of Stanton and Powell County.”
The design features a sandstone arch as the central feature, which is representative of the
arches in the Red River Gorge area.
The rolling hills beneath the arch represent the Appalachian Mountains, which form such
a central role in the topography and culture of Kentucky. The blue water on the flag is
representative of Powell County’s Red River.
The flag prominently features multiple evergreen trees representing the vast green
swathes of Kentucky and the Daniel Boone National Forest.
The flag is of three colors: blue, green and sandstone.
The flag is expected to be in use this Fall. Currently, the City is working with vendors to
produce the flags on t-shirts, hats and other products.
